Yo began his career in corporate sales at a major electronics manufacturer after graduating from university. He later transitioned into the HR industry, where he was responsible for sales of career support services for individual clients, including developing new business opportunities. He joined BRS as a consultant in 2023.

You previously worked in sales. What inspired you to become a recruiter?

I’ve played soccer since I was a child, and I was deeply influenced by professional athletes and the positive impact they had on others. That experience shaped my desire to pursue a career where I could also have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.

When I started thinking about a career change, two things were important to me: finding a role where I could positively influence others and working in an environment where effort is recognized and rewarded. Recruiting felt like the perfect fit—it combines both of those elements.

What made you decide to join BRS?

What initially drew me to BRS was its flat, performance-driven culture. I appreciated that effort is recognized regardless of seniority or background, and that even those new to recruiting are trusted with real challenges from the start.

Since joining, I’ve found that to be true. There’s no sense of hierarchy based on age or tenure, and it’s not uncommon for new consultants with no recruiting background to achieve strong results within just one quarter. I believe that’s thanks to the comprehensive training and support systems, as well as a culture where individual effort truly leads to results.

Another major reason I chose BRS was the people. During my casual interviews and office visit, everyone was incredibly warm and welcoming—even though I wasn’t part of the company yet. That friendly, open atmosphere left a strong impression on me.

What challenges did you face when you first started recruiting?

In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was building confidence when speaking with both hiring companies and candidates. Many of the professionals I work with are highly experienced and knowledgeable, so I felt some pressure to meet their expectations and engage with them as credible consultants.

At first, I asked my manager if I could sit in on their meetings. By observing their communication style and how they conducted themselves, I was able to learn a lot. I would then reflect on those observations and apply them to my own conversations. I also made a habit of reading the Nikkei to stay informed on market trends and broaden my industry knowledge.

How did you find the support system after joining the company?

Since I joined without prior experience in recruitment, the training I received at the start was extremely helpful in quickly getting me up to speed with the basics of the role. Beyond that, I was especially grateful for the support from senior colleagues.

Despite their busy schedules, they took the time to join meetings with me and provided thoughtful feedback after interviews. Their hands-on support made a big difference. By taking in their advice and actively seeking out challenges, I gradually adapted and became more comfortable in the role.

You were promoted to Senior Consultant after just 1 year and 9 months with the company. In what areas do you feel you've grown?

I’ve had many chances to work with individuals who bring deep experience and broad perspectives. Early on, I often felt nervous speaking with them but now, I’m able to approach those conversations more calmly and confidently.

Over time, I’ve gained confidence in my preparation and communication, and I feel I’m now able to handle a wider range of situations. I consider this to be a significant area of personal growth.

Is there a particular episode from your work that stands out to you?

One moment that really stood out was when I helped a non-Japanese candidate secure a job with their ideal company. He wasn’t very confident in Japanese and had trouble progressing through the selection process.

We spent a lot of time preparing together for interviews, and eventually, he got the offer. and he sent me a heartfelt thank-you message. Receiving the message reminded me why I chose this career. It was a moment where I truly felt the impact of being a recruiter.

What do you think of the culture at BRS?

I feel that there’s a strong culture of mutual respect here. Even though we work in different industries and with different clients, there’s always a lot of collaboration and sharing of ideas. In my previous job, I sometimes felt like I had to tackle challenges on my own, but at BRS, there’s always someone offering support when you need it. It’s a warm and supportive environment.

Finally, do you have a message for those interested in BRS?

BRS offers a flexible working environment, allowing me to adjust my schedule as needed. This flexibility helps me stay engaged and passionate about my work without feeling like I’m just "working." Effort is genuinely recognized here, and the support from managers and senior colleagues has been instrumental in my development.

If you’re someone who’s eager to challenge yourself, grow alongside great teammates, and make a real impact, I think you’ll thrive at BRS. I’m looking forward to welcoming new members who bring a positive attitude and a passion for learning.
