Responsibilities
The position will manage a variety of legal issues for a wide range of stakeholders, focusing on maintaining the capacity, processes, and infrastructure to enable business and protect company assets and reputation consistent with instructions from Corporate Legal. This “hands on” position will work closely with the local stakeholder teams, Legal, Privacy, and Compliance teams in the US to support the business in Japan, ensuring company and legal compliance in the sales of the company's products and services, in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines.
Main responsibilities:
  • The position is based in Tokyo, Japan and supports all Japan legal and compliance areas.
  • Supported areas include:
  • Commercial and Customer finance team with competitive law areas and compliance regulations, to advice solutions
  • Digital team with Privacy regulations and guidelines
  • Healthcare Compliance, Healthcare Marketing with Act on Securing Quality, Efficacy and Safety of Products Including Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices and Kosei Kyosou Kiyaku, Promotion guidelines
  • Clinical Affairs team with Rinsho Kenkyu Act
  • Relay Corporate / corporate secretarial for Japan
  • Customer training (PEPS, training center agreements implementation), Vet team for animal protection law
  • Employee relations with labor regulations
Requirements
Minimum requirements:
  • At least 5+ years legal and compliance experience, strongly preferring some experience in medical device, life sciences
  • Admission to the Japanese Bar (Bengoshi).
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, including experience with commercial and other agreement matters.
  • Several years of law firm with familiarity with litigation and advocacy a plus
  • Good organizational skills, business sense, problem-solving skills, and with team player spirit. Able to learn and understand complex, matrixed and dynamic (changing) global organizations.
  • Highly professional, considerate, motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously within a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong Japanese and English with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Flawless and unquestionable integrity, lived up to and clearly communicated as an integral part of your business acumen
  • Some travel required.
