In this role, you will play a critical role in leading the safety work for autonomous vehicles and contributing to the advancement of autonomous vehicle technology. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and shape the future of transportation safety.
Main responsibilities:- Develop and implement safety strategies and policies for autonomous vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices
- Conduct safety assessments and risk analyses, identifying potential hazards and providing strategies and solutions for mitigating risks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, system engineers, and vehicle designers, to integrate safety considerations throughout the development lifecycle
- Design and implement safety measures, including fail-safe mechanisms, redundancy systems, and fault detection and diagnostic strategies, to enhance the safety of autonomous vehicles
- Develop safety requirements and specifications for autonomous vehicle components, subsystems, and software, ensuring alignment with safety standards and regulations
- Conduct and collaborate on safety validation and verification activities, including testing and simulations, to assess the effectiveness of safety measures and identify areas for improvement
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies and industry partners, to stay up-to-date with safety requirements and contribute to the development of safety standards for autonomous vehicles
- Build material and provide safety training and guidance, promoting a safety-conscious culture and ensuring compliance with safety protocols

Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic/Computer science/Automotive/Embedded) or equivalent
- Proven experience as a Safety Engineer, with a focus on autonomous vehicle safety or related fields.
- In-depth knowledge of safety principles, methodologies, and standards applicable to autonomous vehicles, such as ISO 26262, UL 4600, ISO 21448 SOTIF (Safety of the Intended Functionality)
- Familiarity with autonomous vehicle systems, including perception, localization, planning, and control
- Experience in conducting safety assessments, risk analyses, and safety validation activities for complex systems
- Proficiency in safety analysis techniques, such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)
- English level: Fluent (spoken & written)
- Japanese level: Fluent (spoken & written)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to think critically and propose effective safety solutions
- A proactive and self-driven mindset with a passion for innovation and autonomous vehicle safety
Preferred qualifications:- Advanced degrees in safety engineering or a related discipline
- Additional language skills
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic/Computer science/Embedded/Automotive) or equivalent.
- 5+ years working experience with working in the field of safety engineer or similar positions
- 8+ years development experience in vehicle engineering
