Responsibilities
  • Liaise with government, electric utility, and industry stakeholders (including METI, utilities, OCCTO, Agricultural Committees, and others) to shape policymaking, determine suitable grid connection points, coordinate multilateral initiatives in support of project development, and manage all related documentation and correspondence.
  • Monitor and analyze government policy and electricity market data to develop forward-looking strategies for profitable project development.
  • Originate utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage project opportunities that meet the company’s investment criteria.
  • Source, evaluate, analyze, and secure land for utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage projects in collaboration with management, internal staff, and external consultants. Specific duties include prospecting, site identification and assessment, information gathering with local government, viability analysis, outreach and property owner relationship building and relationship management.
  • Source and secure project revenues through long-term agreements for sales of energy (PPA), contracts for difference (CfD), and renewable energy attributes with top-tier off-takers of electricity. Manage responses to requests for proposal and tenders for renewable energy from corporate off-takers, prepare and structure offers, in close collaboration with our global Origination and Legal teams, as well as the local Project Development team.
  • Develop the company profile in the marketplace through regular partner and stakeholder contact, participation in professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events.
  • Collaborate with technical, legal, and financial resources to support the business development process.
  • Manage and maintain data rooms, project summary and tracking tools, and project files.
  • Compile and maintain update reports as required by management.
  • Other development and support activities as may be required by the Company.
Requirements
  • 5+ years business development experience in the energy and/or real estate development industry in Japan
  • Strong track record of working cooperatively with government
  • Strong background working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Multinational company experience a plus
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the Japan renewable energy markets advantageous
  • Electrical engineering experience a plus
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and creatively solve problems
  • High level of professionalism with attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Superior time management and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Full professional proficiency in English required
  • Fluency in Japanese required
  • Legal residents of Japan only.
  • Completed courses in renewable energy will be considered positively
